Khums on Household Items

Q: What is the procedure for calculating the khums on household items?
A: The items that endure despite use, like carpets etc., are not liable to khums. But the surplus of daily consumable goods, such as rice, oil, etc., that remains at the year’s end is liable to khums if they are bought using the money that one earned during the khums year.
