Male-Female Relationship during Engagement

question| If a man and a woman intend to marry, is it permissible for them to chat over the phone or text each other or meet up at public places such as parks in order to become better acquainted?

answer| So long as the marriage contract is not yet executed, a man and a woman are deemed to be non-maḥram, and therefore any interaction between them that is in violation of the proper code of conduct governing the relationship between non-maḥram individuals or that may lead to sin is strictly forbidden. Furthermore, it is worth emphasizing that complying with the canonic rules and precepts of Islamic law pertaining to inter-gender relations and refraining from any action that may lead to sin or entail moral and spiritual corruption is incumbent on every man and woman.
