Wearing Black Clothes to Mark Our Grief for the Death of the Holy

question| Is it a meritorious deed to wear black clothes as a sign of mourning in commemorating the death of the members of the Holy Household of the Prophet?

answer| Wearing black clothes on the occasion of the anniversary of the martyrdom of the Holy Infallibles by way of “venerating the hallmarks of faith” (taʻẓīm shaʻāʼir allāh) and as a sign of mourning is a meritorious deed that is undoubtedly rewarded by God. Moreover, contrary to the common assumption, the objectionability of wearing black clothes at all times is not a definitively-established precept; that which is definitively objectionable is wearing black clothes while performing canonic prayers.
