Ayatollah Khamenei Leads Eid-al-Fitr Prayers in Tehran

November 04, 2005

The Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei led the Eid-al-Fitr (the fast-breaking feast) prayers in Tehran held at the Imam Khomeini Prayer Grounds on Friday, November 4.

Hundreds of thousands of faithful and devoted Tehran residents took part in the spectacular Eid-al-Fitr prayers following one month of fasting, worship and supplication to Almighty Allah.

In the first sermon of the prayers, Ayatollah Khamenei expressed his felicitations to the Islamic Ummah and the Iranian nation on the auspicious occasion of the Eid-al-Fitr, the day of divine remission, grace and mercy. He called on the congregation to preserve the spiritual attainments of the holy month of Ramazan and try to benefit from further divine blessings.

"The Iranian nation is a faithful and dedicated nation. The hearts of our youngsters are spotless and illuminated by deep faith. The cordial relationship existing between Iranian men and women and Almighty Allah is so genuine and deep-rooted that it is capable of attracting divine grace and mercy," Ayatollah Khamenei told the worshippers.

In the second sermon of the Eid-al-Fitr prayers, the Leader of the Islamic Republic hinted at the recent presidential election in Iran and described the glorious, enthusiastic and memorable participation of the Iranian people from all social strata in the election as a sign of strong national unity and broad public participation in Iran.

"Despite all the efforts made by the enemies, the Iranian nation's advance on the path to the accomplishment of its ideals and objectives is getting more serious and more successful as time goes by," he noted.

Further in his statements, Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that the Iranian nation in the eyes of the world public is a valorous, determined, talented and strong nation pursuing lofty ideals, a nation that will accomplish any objective that it pursues earnestly.

"Besides these features, the Iranian nation is a perseverant and steadfast nation that has been wronged and treated unfairly, but it will never do injustice to other nations or trample on their rights. However, if the world's arrogant powers try to encroach on the rights of the Iranian nation, it will not endure any encroachment or imposition," Ayatollah Khamenei pointed out.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Leader referred to the takeover of U.S. espionage den in Tehran by the Iranian students on November 4, 1979. He stated that the documents obtained from the espionage den, which were later published in some 100 volumes of books, indicated that U.S. government had taken every possible measure against the Iranian people and their national interests, especially after the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

"On November 4, 1979, the Iranian nation voiced its protest at the oppression and injustice that had been done to it. It also showed that it will not endure injustice and will stand up to oppressors," he noted.

Putting emphasis on the fact that the world's arrogant and domineering powers are still hatching plots against the Iranian nation and highlighting the need for the Iranian people to withstand these plots, Ayatollah Khamenei emphasized that the Iranian nation can attain the high status that it deserves through self-reliance and trust in Almighty Allah.

In conclusion, the Leader of the Islamic Republic stated, "I would like to ask different political groups and factions in the country to refrain from undermining the self-reliance and bright and glorious identity of the Iranian nation and not allow trivial matters to detract from the grandeur and brightness of this identity."
